Galvanealed is a carbon steel sheet coated with zinc on both sides by the continuous hot dip process. Conversion to this alloy results in a non-spangle matte finish witch makes the sheet suitable for painting as shipped, if not chemically treated or oiled. The zinc-iron alloy coated surface also enhances welding. The coating is harder than a regular galvanized coating and is more resistant to scratching and manufacturing damage. However, the harder coating is susceptible to powdering if the sheet is severely formed during fabrication.
In-line alloying of the hot dip coating brings a zinc-iron alloy to the surface of the sheet, improving weldability compared to regular hot dip galvanized. When temper rolled, the surface is right for many exposed applications. Galvanealed sheet also has excellent paintability and formability.
